integrative mental health

If you are here, you might be a creative person –artist, writer, teacher, healing practitioner – who feels stuck in your ability to move forward and actualize your full and unique potential.

"Stuck" might take many forms - depression, chronic anxiety, trauma patterns, miscellaneous self-sabotage, or issues in relationships. Maybe you've been through (or are in the middle of) a challenging experience that you have yet to fully metabolize. You want to get to the root of these issues so that you can bloom more fully in your life.

My clients are people who can envision new ways of being and who want to be creative about what therapy might look like.

If this sounds like you, welcome. I'm glad you're here.

Welcome

I am a therapist, herbalist, acupuncturist and educator. For three decades, my clinical work has focused on radically integrative mental health care that honors the way humans are embedded in nested ecologies of body, psyche, relationship, culture and place. My teaching work, grounded in doctoral studies in medical anthropology, explores the challenges and possibilities for integrative care and the creative opportunities that exist in respectful, healthy dialogue between many languages of healing.

I believe that the deepest healing is attuned to the delicate co-mingling of these systems that shape us.

My work weaves together a breadth of perspectives and makes room for many ways of making meaning with our life experiences. In this context, I help you honor your story, write new stories, and cultivate resilience in the face of life's challenges.

I have a background in multiple evidence-based approaches to healing including depth psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, and classical Chinese medicine. I blend therapy, somatic coaching, and holistic care in ways that make sense for each person.

Hello, I'm Sarah

My approach is "integrative" - by which I mean:

Inviting in and translating between multiple perspectives as needed, understanding that translation can be messy but it is also generative

Taking a "whole and unique person" approach, recognizing that each person's needs are different.

Addressing the root cause of an issue rather than chasing symptoms.

Bringing a collaborative, empowering, and non-judgmental approach that allows people to make choices that fit their sensibilities.

An integrative approach

I now feel like the sun has come out in my life. I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate this opportunity.

I feel my life coming back into my veins again. I've been numb for so long and things are finally shifting. It feels SO good!

for your ability to travel with me through all this. I am starting to see my dreams come true and it makes me have to slow down and take deep breaths!

I am so grateful

I am a new person ...

Here comes the sun ...

testimonials

When we made it back home, over those curved roads that wind through the city of peace,

we stopped at the doorway of dusk as it opened to our homelands.

We gave thanks for the story, for all parts of the story,

because it was by the light of those challenges we knew ourselves ---

We asked for forgiveness. We laid down our burdens next to each other.
